In 1970 Spiro Agnew called the media “nattering nabobs of negativism.” Rush Limbaugh liked the phrase so much that he used it last week. The cat ladies of #stoprush have morphed into nattering nabobs.
The phrase trips off the tongue. Nattering nabobs of negativism. Nice alliteration, Spiro old boy. Spiro happens to be the only Vice President in American history to resign from office on charges of extortion, bribery, conspiracy, and tax fraud.
No wonder Rush can quote him without so much as taking a breath.
